Starting this school year, LICHS students will no longer be receiving MetroCards from the MTA.
The NYCDOE has informed us that our students will be receiving OMNY Cards instead. These cards are meant only for New York City residents who qualify based on their distance from the school. Below is some information about this new system.
ABOUT STUDENT OMNY CARDS
Distributed exclusively by your school.
You can’t get a Student OMNY Card from the MTA.
Good for four free rides each day.
You can tap a Student OMNY card whenever you want to take up to four trips every day of the week, any time of the day.
This includes a free transfer between the subway and local, limited, and Select bus service, or a free transfer between buses.
Valid all year long.
Your student OMNY Card does NOT expire until the next school year.
If you’ve used Student MetroCards in the past, you should know that Student OMNY Cards give you more free rides with fewer limits!
Four free rides every day
All (not just certain hours)
Every day of the year (not just school days) – even on weekends and over the summer
One card for the entire school year and the summer
Student OMNY cards are for the student – and only the student! It is not to be shared; if the card is confiscated it cannot be reissued.
If the student's OMNY Card is lost or stolen, report it to the OMNY Office at the end of your school day. Please note it may take time to get a replacement.
Remember to always tap for your rides. Your tap tells the MTA how many people ride from every station and helps improve service.
The new OMNY cards will be distributed to students along with their Program Cards ON Wednesday, September 4.
